Edison Parés Atiles is a Professional Engineer with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Edison worked in the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority for 13 years in the Electrical Protective System Division in protective relaying coordination studies. After that, he worked another 15 years in the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, in the Operation System Division, in the development of the Energy Management System (EMS/SCADA).
Edison has been working in Renewable Energy Projects for the last 11 years. Due to Hurricane Maria, he was asked to carry out a Feasibility Study for a Community Microgrid for 250 Houses in a rural area of Puerto Rico. With the results of the Feasibility Study, he wrote the article titled “Best Practices for Microgrids Applied to a Case Study in a Community”. Edison is currently completing his Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, specialized in Power, at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez.
